DANIEL “DAN” MOWER

Lead Agent, The Mower-McLennan Team | NYS Associate Real Estate Broker

Daniel “Dan” Mower entered real estate in 2007 with a conviction that still guides his work today: buyers and sellers should be able to expect more from their representation.

The idea was personal. After relocating his family to Corning in 2006, Dan came away from his own real estate experience believing the process could be more communicative, better prepared and more thoughtfully managed. He entered the profession the following year determined to provide the kind of representation he had wanted as a client himself.

His path to real estate was anything but conventional. Dan began working at an early age and spent his first professional years in the restaurant industry, progressing through professional kitchens and restaurant management, including regional kitchen-management responsibilities for a multi-location franchise. He later joined the culinary team at  St. Pete Beach’s historic Don CeSar Beach Resort. The demanding world of professional hospitality helped shape an appreciation for preparation, attention to detail, service and performing well under pressure that has followed him throughout his career.

In 1998, Dan returned to Connecticut and purchased a commercial janitorial company, which he grew and expanded over the following years while earning and managing contracts with corporate clients and major construction firms. Business ownership added another dimension to his experience: negotiating contracts, managing people and demanding client relationships, building effective systems, solving problems and remaining accountable for results. He sold the company when his family relocated to Corning in 2006 following his wife’s completion of her Ph.D. in materials science.

Dan’s interest in technology developed long before it became an important part of real estate. A lifelong technology enthusiast, he built and modified computers as a hobby and small side business years before digital tools transformed the way homes were marketed. That curiosity later made him an early local adopter of immersive property tours, video, digital tools and targeted social advertising as ways to remove barriers for buyers, expand a property’s audience and create a more complete experience of a home.

After establishing his real estate practice, Dan became one of seven founding partners who opened the area’s Keller Williams franchise in 2009, an ownership relationship he maintains today as an investor in KW Amplify/Southern Tier & Finger Lakes.

Over the years, Dan also became increasingly interested not simply in how real estate was traditionally practiced, but in how consumers actually experienced it. A regular student of buyer and seller behavior, NAR research and market data, he looks for patterns in how people make decisions, what they value in their representation and where the industry can do better.

In 2018, Dan joined forces with Ruth W. “Ruthie” McLennan and the already-successful McLennan Team. Building upon the remarkable foundation Ruthie and Charlie McLennan had created, Dan helped lead a year-long, research-informed redesign of the organization before The Mower-McLennan Team launched in its new form in 2019. The fuller story of that evolution is part of the team’s history; its influence on Dan’s work today is much simpler: surround talented people with clearly defined responsibilities, thoughtful systems and accountability so that agents can concentrate on the work that creates the greatest value for their clients.

As Lead Agent, that means Dan concentrates most of his own time on interpreting the market, advising clients, developing pricing and positioning strategies, preparing properties for market, solving problems and negotiating.

For sellers, preparation and presentation are strategic decisions. Dan believes the price of a home should never determine the standard of its presentation. Every Mower-McLennan listing receives the same core professional media treatment, with additional marketing and distribution tailored to the property and its likely audience. When appropriate, that reach extends well beyond the immediate area to buyers attracted to the value and quality of life available in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes.

For buyers, Dan’s approach emphasizes analysis over salesmanship. His role is to help clients understand value, recognize opportunities and concerns, evaluate options, structure strong terms and negotiate effectively—providing the candid counsel necessary to make confident decisions.

His practice encompasses residential seller representation, corporate relocation, luxury and distinctive properties, and expert buyer representation. Dan has a particularly strong presence in the Corning/Painted Post, Horseheads and Elmira markets, and represents clients throughout Steuben, Chemung and Schuyler Counties, and the broader Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region.

The Mower-McLennan Team has ranked #1 locally among teams by sales volume for multiple consecutive years. For Dan, the significance of that consistency is less about the ranking itself than what it demonstrates: thoughtful preparation, excellent people, disciplined systems and skilled representation produce results.

Away from real estate, Dan and his wife—who began her career as a research scientist and today serves as a director at Corning Incorporated—are raising their two children in the community they chose to call home. Their family shares a love of travel, live music, Broadway and musical theater, dance and the arts.

For Dan, exceptional representation isn’t improvised. It’s designed.
